Incredibly Effective Strategies For Winning Custody

Child Custody Law

When you get divorced, you will be controlled by many laws. The child custody law is one that will have maybe the largest impact on you.

Lawyers, judges, paralegals, the District Attorney, even police officers and social workers–will all know the laws and tell you what you can and cannot do. That’s why it helps to know basic legal concepts and terms.

As you navigate the maze of child custody laws, keep in mind that child custody is composed of laws–formal, written-down rules that tell you what you can and cannot do–and policies–informal subjective rules that spring from the personality of the judge who hears your case.

When it comes to custody, some of the rules, such as federal statutes, may never apply to you, while others, such as local court procedure, may only affect you if you actually go to court. Nevertheless, as a separated or divorced parent, you must learn the new rules.

Since there are many sources of rules and laws, it can be confusing to decide what’s important and what’s not. The best place to start–and the source of most rules–are federal and state child custody law.

I will get into these specifically in the next post.
